Beginning Steel Band

Learn a new instrument, the “pan”, in this entry level ensemble where no musical experience is necessary. This ensemble introduces the historical and cultural context of the steel drum that originated in Trinidad & Tobago. Learning is accomplished through a mix of rote instruction, and basic notation. The ensemble uses folk melodies, easy pop hits, and pan-Caribbean party music as an entry point into the genre. Class meets at College of Saint Scholastica, Tower Hall, room 3265.
