Driver EducationDriver Education Duluth Public Schools Both In-Person and Distance Learning Options Duluth Public Schools Community Education offers Youth Driver Education as a two-part course: classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel. To qualify for an instructional permit in the State of Minnesota, you must be at least 15 years old, complete 30 hours of classroom instruction, be enrolled in behind-the-wheel instruction, and pass written knowledge test. Duluth Public Schools Community Education driver education is designed to provide 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with a licensed educator. - Behind the Wheel Included - Summer 2025 dates are to be determined. In-Person Classroom Instruction Each session consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction delivered by our MDE licensed educators at East or Denfeld High Schools. Students must be at least 15 years of age by the last scheduled classroom session. Upon completion of the 30 hours of classroom instruction, students will receive a blue card signifying they have completed and meet the necessary requirements of classroom instruction required by the MN Department of Public Safety to take the Class D Instruction Permit test. Fully Online Classroom Instruction The fully online class (in partnership with A+ Driving School out of the Twin Cities) allows students to take this state-approved online class at their own pace and on whatever schedule they choose. Once the 30 hours of online class is completed, they are issued paperwork to take the Class D Instruction permit test. Behind-the-Wheel Upon completion of classroom instruction and passing the Class D Instruction Permit test, students will be eligible to begin the required 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with our MDE licensed educators. Please contact the Driver Education coordinator when your student is ready to begin Behind the Wheel. Student pickup for behind-the-wheel instruction will be arranged by the instructor with the student. Cost The cost of the full program (classroom and behind the wheel) is $420 and must be paid when registering using Visa, MasterCard or Discover. ECFE offers parents hands-on learning experiences and parenting discussions that will nourish a lifetime of teachable moments. ALL families are welcome. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes meet once a week. We offer classes at various times and at 4 different locations across Duluth. Together, parents and children, participate in activities and experiences that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language skills. All ECFE classes are taught by licensed early childhood teachers and parent educators to provide the quality education parents are looking for. ECFE teachers use the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework and Early Childhood Indicators of Progress: Minnesota’s Early Learning Standards provided through the Minnesota Department of Education.Category -

K.E.Y. ZoneK.E.Y. Zone Program K.E.Y. Zone is a collaborative program of the Duluth YMCA and the Duluth Public Schools. The program provides a safe and supervised environment for youth to receive educational support and participate in enrichment activities. Program goals include fostering enrichment and learning, development of life skills, promoting regular attendance in school, and providing year-round opportunities, including summer and break days. The program is located at all nine elementary schools and is for youth in grades K-5 and runs from 2:15pm-6pm. Summer and break day programs are available at select sites for an additional fee.
